Welcome to my Weekly Blog
Wednesdays with Wildlife & Wonder

Debbie and kids (small)Debbie and kids (small)

Welcome to my blog — a place where wildlife, photography, and the beauty of nature come together.

I’m Debbie Quick, a wildlife and nature photographer based in the Hudson Valley of New York. Most days you’ll find me outdoors with a camera in hand, exploring forests, wetlands, and open fields in search of the wild moments that make nature so magical. From bald eagles soaring over frozen rivers to fox kits playing in spring grass, these are the moments I love to capture and share.

My journey into wildlife photography began years ago when I first discovered a bald eagle nest near my home. Watching that family grow and thrive sparked a passion that has taken me across the Hudson Valley, the Adirondacks, and many other incredible places in search of wildlife and natural beauty.

Every Wednesday, I share a new story here on the blog — a behind-the-scenes look at my photography adventures, memorable wildlife encounters, beautiful places I’ve explored, and the animals that have captured my heart.

  • Some weeks you’ll meet a particular bird or animal that left a lasting impression.
  • Other weeks I’ll take you along on a photography adventure or share a little inspiration from the wild.

If you love wildlife, nature, photography, or simply the quiet wonder of the outdoors, you’re in the right place.

So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and join me each week for Wednesdays with Wildlife & Wonder.

Because the natural world always has another story waiting to be told.

My Journey Photographing Atlantic Puffins in Maine

December 10, 2025  •  1 Comment
A Little Chaos, A Lot of Puffins, and One Unforgettable Adventure In 2019, I embarked on one of the most exciting photography trips of my life — a journey to photograph the Atlantic Puffins on Machias Seal Island off the coast of Cutler, Maine. The plan sounded simple enough: meet my photography friend in New Jersey, fly to Bangor, drive to our hot...

Sometimes you don’t have to travel far to enjoy what Mother Nature brings to your doorstep — sometimes, she brings it right to you. For 13 years, I was a seasonal camper at a beautiful campground in Ticonderoga, NY nestled deep in the Adirondack Mountains. And let me tell you… my campsite was a wildlife hotspot of its own. I didn’t need to hike mil...

A Tradition Filled with Eagles, Early Mornings, and Wild Memories For roughly the past decade, every fall has meant one thing for me: packing up my camera gear, gathering a small crew of photographer friends, and heading out on our annual trip to the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River in Darlington, Maryland. It’s a pilgrimage of sorts — a few...

Hello everyone! I know it's been a few weeks since I've last posted and I'm so sorry for the delay. Life has been busy! But, I'm here now, so here it goes. Over the past few months I've spent almost every weekend at the grasslands hoping to photograph short-eared owls, but it wasn't the greatest season for them. We only had roughly 6-8 of them and...

Cormorant in a tree

We are experiencing extremely low temperatures this weekend and last nights temps dropped to roughly -5 degrees. Unfortunately, I forgot to get up and run both the hot and cold water every couple hours to avoid pipe freezing and my hot water pipe was frozen when I woke at 5:30 in the morning. Luckily it is only that pipe as I do at least still have...

Eagle on ice

It's February 2nd, AKA, Groundhog Day... and Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, which means we should expect another 6 weeks of winter. If this was a typical cold and snowy winter in the Hudson Valley region, I would have been annoyed with the stupid groundhog. However, we've had such a wild winter with higher than normal temps and NO s...

Rose-breasted grosbeak in the Adirondacks

Wow, I can't believe it is already February 1st. January went by so fast, like a blink of an eye. I'm guessing it went by so fast because I've been so focused on my over demanding and extremely busy new job. I look forward to the arrival of spring and camping season and hopefully the ability to take a little time off for R&R. Now that we are in th...

Hello and Happy Monday to all. It's hard to believe how fast the weekend goes, partially because the weekend is always so busy. This past weekend I got out with my camera for a bit on Saturday, but then was busy with family stuff Saturday evening and most of the day Sunday. Due to how busy I was and how tired I was last night, I didn't get a chance...

Harbor Seal along the coast

It's Friday and I am not only happy the weekend is here, but I'm completely beat. For the past few months I've been working very long days, much longer than I would like. Part of the problem is that I'm working for someone on the west coast and I think he forgets there is a 3 hour time difference and so I wind up with some pretty late meetings seve...

It's Wednesday, Happy Hump Day to you all. I was so excited when I checked the weather this morning and saw they were predicting three inches of snow. As much as I don't necessarily like the cold, I absolutely love the snow. The gloomy winter always looks so much prettier when everything is covered in a blanket of glistening white snow. Plus, the w...

Well, if I thought yesterday was a long work day.... today was even longer.... I started it at 8am and my last meeting of the day didn't end until 7pm. I truly hope these hours are not the new norm because I don't think I can handle this for an extensive period of time. Here it is 9:30pm and I am just getting started on my blog, even though I am t...

Monday's are brutal. Especially when you work 10 hours and 7 of them was in meetings. The nice part of it though was seeing the snow fall every time I looked up. It didn't accumulate to anything, but it sure did look pretty out there. In addition to working a long day, I am still recovering from all the activities of the weekend. I was so beat las...
