I left my house early today to go spend some time with my favorite eagle family. It started out as a beautiful day with really nice light for photography. Sadly, the eagles were very quiet and didn't provide much opportunity for photographs.

By noon, my buddy Bob and I decided we would go out for a drive and check out the local area for some wildlife. Our hopes were to find an Osprey, but we knew how small those chances were so we had no expectations. Good thing, because we did not find an Osprey. However, we did spot a Great Blue Heron nest. We spent over 2 hrs watching the nest and the area. Now that we've found the nest, we'll keep an eye on the area as this is going to be a whole new experience for us.

We weren't sure if it was the male or female on the nest, but we watched and enjoyed this interesting creature. In many ways, the Great Blue Heron looks like a prehistoric animal. Not nearly as attractive as a Bald Eagle, yet very interesting to observe. The nest they've built is very wimpy looking, so we are both hoping it is going to hold out through the duration of the nesting season.

As we continue to monitor this nest, I will do my best to post about it and keep you all up to date.
