Welcome to my Weekly Blog
Wednesdays with Wildlife & Wonder

Debbie and kids (small)Debbie and kids (small)

Welcome to my blog — a place where wildlife, photography, and the beauty of nature come together.

I’m Debbie Quick, a wildlife and nature photographer based in the Hudson Valley of New York. Most days you’ll find me outdoors with a camera in hand, exploring forests, wetlands, and open fields in search of the wild moments that make nature so magical. From bald eagles soaring over frozen rivers to fox kits playing in spring grass, these are the moments I love to capture and share.

My journey into wildlife photography began years ago when I first discovered a bald eagle nest near my home. Watching that family grow and thrive sparked a passion that has taken me across the Hudson Valley, the Adirondacks, and many other incredible places in search of wildlife and natural beauty.

Every Wednesday, I share a new story here on the blog — a behind-the-scenes look at my photography adventures, memorable wildlife encounters, beautiful places I’ve explored, and the animals that have captured my heart.

  • Some weeks you’ll meet a particular bird or animal that left a lasting impression.
  • Other weeks I’ll take you along on a photography adventure or share a little inspiration from the wild.

If you love wildlife, nature, photography, or simply the quiet wonder of the outdoors, you’re in the right place.

So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and join me each week for Wednesdays with Wildlife & Wonder.

Because the natural world always has another story waiting to be told.

July 30, 2013 - Day 30

Due to today being an extremely busy and very hectic day, I did not get a chance to touch my DSLR. Therefore, I'm using a pic I took with my iPhone. It's not the most creative pic, it lacks proper composition and it is a poorly exposed pic, but it is my favorite view on my way to Ti. It is my first glance at Lake George and when I reach this spot,...

After work this evening, I met up with my friend, Tim for dinner at the Indian place. It was nice to catch up with him as I haven't seen him in a few weeks. The food at the restaurant was sooooo good that I ate my entire meal. I feel like such a piggie, but that was a real treat as I haven't had Indian food in ages and that is my favorite!!! On my...

Oh my, it's 28 days into my project and I have to say that it is much more difficult to keep track with the project than I thought it would be. Most days, it is after 9pm when I get around to it and let's just say that I'm often very tired by this time in the evening. Today was a pretty awesome day. I spent the whole afternoon with my closest frie...

July 27, 2013 - Day 27

It was an awesome day up in the Albany area, hanging out with family and celebrating Emily's 3rd birthday (my niece). We all hung out by the pool, enjoyed some grilled meats with salads, and swam. Most of my time in the pool was lifting kids in and out and swimming around with them. It was a really good time. Finally, after 3 1/2 years little Kaci...

Yippppeeeee, it is finally Friday! This week has been brutal. There is so much to get done at work to meet our upcoming customer deadline. And I've had so much going on after work between catching up with family, friends, yard work, laundry, and house cleaning. Since I'm almost caught up, I decided to go to one of my favorite places after work. The...

Oh my, what a busy day today was. It's not even a month into my project and I'm realizing that this is a very difficult project. There are some days where life is simply very busy and I don't have time to get out and be creative with my camera. Naturally, the first part of my day was at work where things are extremely hectic. We are quickly approac...

July 24, 2013 - Day 24

Today has been extremely hectic. I'm now realizing that being away for three weeks at a shot means coming home to LOTS of work. After leaving work I was so busy getting all my bottles and cans returned, I finished up the yard work (including trimming back my out of control forsythia bushes), and washed and folded five loads of laundry. I finally sa...

Lately my luck hasn't been so great, I sure hope things will turn around soon! After work today my plans were to get the lawn mowed and then head out to my parents to pick up Jasmine. Sadly I spent an hour on cleaning up the jungle in my yard and wasn't able to finish (a lawn that usually takes roughly 20 mins to mow). The lawn was too high and wet...

Oh my, I don't even know where to begin today. The work part of the day was as usual. It was very busy and it went by fast. At the end of the work day I packed up the car to head home. Just before leaving camp to come home I got to see my friend James and his three boys. The boys were so cute! Very excited to see me and to invite me to join them on...

July 21, 2013 - Day 21

So far today has been a pretty awesome day! I went to the fort to see the second re-enactment and this one was way better than the one they put on yesterday. The one yesterday took place in the woods and they were so far away that it was difficult to see. The re-enactment today was in a field, so it was much easier to see the whole thing! I starte...

Today is not only day 20 of my project, but it was also the re-enactment of Montcalm's Cross which was the largest battle of the French and Indian War that was fought at Fort Ticonderoga. This battle was fought on July 8, 1758 and today we got to see a recreation of the battle as the British and Provincial soldiers assaulted the entrenched French A...

Oh my, it's HOT, HOT, HOT today! The temp is currently 90 degrees with a heat index of 96. It's far too hot to do anything. I couldn't even finish the hot fudge sundae I picked up for dinner! I tried to go for a walk after dinner. I only made it to my favorite chapel down the road from the campground. I was expecting the chapel to be my photo today...

It's day 18 and I really didn't have a chance to get out with my camera. After work, I went out on the boat with my friend James, two of his three boys, and his cousin Tucker. We had a great time out on the water. When we were going slowly through the channel, James three year old son Felix kept asking if we could do whealy's! Oh my gosh, it was so...

Here it goes, day 17 of my blog. Naturally, I had that daily repetitive thing called work for most of the day. Then when I signed off at the end of the day, I headed over to the marina where I got to drop my kayak in the water and go for a 3.3 mile paddle on the northern part of Lake George. I feel so lucky that I am able to keep my kayak at the ma...

July 16, 2013 - Day 16

Oh my, today has been a really busy day. I worked until 4:30, then spent 4 hours scrubbing my deck with bleach and water. At this point, I'm pretty tired so I decided to use my friend, Tim's advice and use one of my dogs for my photo of the day. I had a little photo shoot with my boys and it was tough to decide which photo I wanted to use. After I...
