Welcome to my Weekly Blog
Wednesdays with Wildlife & Wonder

Debbie and kids (small)Debbie and kids (small)

Welcome to my blog — a place where wildlife, photography, and the beauty of nature come together.

I’m Debbie Quick, a wildlife and nature photographer based in the Hudson Valley of New York. Most days you’ll find me outdoors with a camera in hand, exploring forests, wetlands, and open fields in search of the wild moments that make nature so magical. From bald eagles soaring over frozen rivers to fox kits playing in spring grass, these are the moments I love to capture and share.

My journey into wildlife photography began years ago when I first discovered a bald eagle nest near my home. Watching that family grow and thrive sparked a passion that has taken me across the Hudson Valley, the Adirondacks, and many other incredible places in search of wildlife and natural beauty.

Every Wednesday, I share a new story here on the blog — a behind-the-scenes look at my photography adventures, memorable wildlife encounters, beautiful places I’ve explored, and the animals that have captured my heart.

  • Some weeks you’ll meet a particular bird or animal that left a lasting impression.
  • Other weeks I’ll take you along on a photography adventure or share a little inspiration from the wild.

If you love wildlife, nature, photography, or simply the quiet wonder of the outdoors, you’re in the right place.

So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and join me each week for Wednesdays with Wildlife & Wonder.

Because the natural world always has another story waiting to be told.

Canada Goose Gosling

It was a long and busy day at work, so on my way home I decided to stop at the park with all the Canada Geese and Goslings to relax and unwind. When I arrived at the park all the Geese and their Goslings were sitting out on land or just at the edge of the water near the shore. I sat in the car and watched for a few minutes, then they all came towa...

I found Bambi

On Monday, a coworker/friend informed me that there was a fawn near one of the buildings where I work. Sadly, I did not have my camera with me and it was in a spot that was too far for me to walk to with my sprained ankle, so I didn't get to see it. I really wanted to see it, but because I didn't have my camera I figured I would just be patient and...

Great Blue Heron looking for a meal

Today was completely uneventful. I had tossed up the idea of going to the Birds of Prey Event at Green Chimney's or hit up a local hotspot first thing in the morning. As much as I wanted to go to the Birds of Prey Event, I decided against it because I knew my ankle wasn't going to be able to handle all the standing around and walking. Due to overca...

Double-crested Cormorant in Action!

I woke early this morning and was surprised to see the sun shining as I was expecting it to be rainy and overcast. I wanted to get up and get an early start, but my foot and ankle hurt so much from the little bit of walking I did after work yesterday and so I wound up sleeping in. Eventually, I got up and headed out. I first checked on the swan fa...

The cuteness of a Gosling

This morning started out rainy and overcast and as the afternoon started to set in, the sun decided to come out. By the time I finished working for the day, the sun was shining strong and the sky was a beautiful color blue. It was clearly a perfect afternoon for grabbing the camera and going out to look for wildlife to shoot. I made three different...

What a weekend.... Wow, I can't express that enough.... I got away and headed up to camp after having a super stressful week at work with hopes of having lots of fun and getting out with my camera. Instead, I began it by spraining my ankle on Friday night. I woke up Saturday morning and WOW.... the pain was so intense, I couldn't put any weight at...

Swan and Cygnets

May 20, 2018  •  Leave a Comment
For the past few weeks I've been driving past this pond with a pair of swans and seeing one of them sitting on eggs. Every time I've driven by, I've prayed that they would have cygnets for me to photograph. Today, I had time to go check the pond and sure enough, the pair of swans were swimming around with the cygnets. Most of the time the cygnets w...

My new friend, Woody

It's that awesome time of year and I am now back at camp in the Adirondacks. I opened up my camper on Friday and spent 2 1/2 days getting things cleaned up and set up for the season. I have a few minor things to finish off, but there is no rush on that. Now that things are set up and ready to go, I was able to take my camera out and play. This mor...

Mama Fox feeding her family

Hi peeps, Happy Cinco de Mayo! I hope you all have had as wonderful of a day as I have. I woke this morning to temps in the upper 50's and it felt great. I turned off the central air I had running for 2 days and opened the windows as I prepared for the busy day ahead of me. My day involved heading to Newburgh to photograph ducks and geese, then ho...

Mama Fox and her Kits

April 26, 2018  •  Leave a Comment
The past couple of days were rainy, so I took full advantage of today's sunshine and went out after work to watch the fox family I've been checking in on this past week. When I arrived on location, I strategically parked my car so I could sit in it and use it as a blind. There were two kits sleeping in the yard and nothing happened for the longest...

My morning began early and my day was long, but it was completely awesome! I was out the door at 7 this morning to head up to Troy for my nieces first communion. The church service was very nice and Julia looked so beautiful and grown up. She recently got a hair cut just like mom and her dress was full and beautiful. She looked like a little prince...

Today was a gorgeous and busy day! The sky was a beautiful blue and temps reached a high of 59 degrees making it absolutely perfect to be outdoors. Thankfully I started early so I could hit up a bunch of locations. I left the house before 7:30 and headed towards the river to photograph bald eagles. From there I went over to a creek where I got to p...

Today was my 6th and final full day in Texas and it sure was a busy one. Rafael and I got up early and headed out to Quinta Matzlan to walk the trails and do some bird watching. The home and the property was very beautiful and we ran into the couple I met from Wisconsin at Las Palomas yesterday. We began our journey walking south on the trail towa...

It's hard to believe that today is my 5th full day in Texas and I only have one more day here before I travel back home to NY. I'm having a really good time hanging out with Rafael and photographing the wildlife, but I am missing home and my boyz. Today Rafael had to work, so I had to venture out on my own. I was a little hesitant to go far, so I...

Today was my fourth full day in Texas visiting my friend, Rafael, and I sure am having a good time. It's been really nice catching up with my friend from the Navy and enjoying the great outdoors in his area. Today we visited the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center on South Padre Island. Upon arrival to the nature center we first encounter...
