I woke up for work this morning and realized the weekend wasn't long enough, so I decided to use one of my personal choice holiday's and head out to see my favorite Osprey family!
What a fantastic choice that turned out to be. I was there for maybe a half hour when one of the kids started flapping its wings and getting air. Maybe two minutes later, the kid flew from the nest, did a few circles and returned back with its mom and sibling. Naturally, I have no idea if that was the first fledge or not as I didn't go to the nest yesterday. From my observation, it seemed too smooth to be the first time.
I was so excited and was hoping to stay for a few hours, but an hour and half into my visit, big thunderstorm clouds kicked me out and sent me back to camp. Which wound up being a good thing because I wasn't feeling so well and went back to camp to take a nap.
I'm now up and feeling a little better, yay! The thunderstorm has since passed, but the sky is still complete overcast. I'm not sure if another storm is yet to come or not, so I will probably just stay in for the day.
Here is the first shot I got of the one kid leaving the nest. What a fantastic surprise as I was not expecting either of them to fledge for roughly another week.
