Many of you may know the Christmas Tradition of the "Elf on the Shelf", but for those of you who don't, let me give you a quick explanation.
Every year Santa sends his elves out to people's homes to keep an eye on their children and listen to their wishes. The elf will find a good place to sit in the home and every night he/she will fly back to the North Pole and report back to Santa. After the elf visits Santa and his/her friends at the North Pole, the elf returns to the home and sits in a new location, giving the kids an opportunity to look for him/her when they awake in the morning. The only rule is that nobody can touch him or he may lose his magic. This elf stays and observes the children up until Christmas Eve when he then flies away and is expected to return the next holiday season.
For the past few years my sisters have had their elf watching over their children. Now this year, I decided it was time to have one in my home too since the nieces and nephews are expected to visit during the holiday season. My elf arrived today and with the help of my sister Desiree, we named him "Tinsel". Tinsel landed in his first location and looked a bit lonely as there were no decorations up, so I dug through some of my decorations and decorated his first landing area. As I went through my decorations, I was very sad at the thought that this will be my first Christmas without my sweet lil Jasmine. I couldn't bear to put her stocking back in the box, so I thought I would hang it and hold onto my wonderful memories of her. One of my favorite memories of her during the holiday season was watching her open her Christmas presents all by herself. Luckily I got this memory on video in the past, so I can watch it at any time.
Please join me in saying a little prayer for Jasmine and for welcoming Tinsel to my home!
