Introduction: The Osprey is also known as: the fish eagle, fish hawk, river hawk, or sea hawk. They can be found near any body of water (ponds, rivers, or lakes) as that is where they are able to find an adequate supply of food (fish). The Osprey was nearly endangered in the mid 20th century due to DDT and other related pesticides. Since these pesticides where banned in 1972, the Osprey have made a comeback in North America. Humans have assisted in their comeback by erecting poles and/or platforms on utility poles near waterways for them to nest on.
